A Mississippi man was found guilty on two counts of attempted second-degree murder for a shooting that occurred in St. Rose in June.
It took the 12-member jury less than an hour to find Samuel Reed, 29, of D’Iberville, guilty. The incident occurred when Reed and another man drove to the 100 block of James Drive to confront two St. Rose men about something they had reportedly said, according to Sgt. Dwayne LaGrange, Sheriff’s Office spokesman.
When Reed and his friend arrived, they got into an argument with the other two men and all four ended up fighting outside of the residence, LaGrange said.
After the fight, Reed got into his vehicle, grabbed a gun and fired three shots at the men, LaGrange said.
One of the victims was hit in the right arm and hip, while the other was shot in the left leg.
The two victims were treated and released from the hospital. The attempted second-degree murder conviction carries a sentence between 10 to 50 years without the benefit of parole, probation or suspension of sentence.
Sentencing is scheduled for March 1, 2011 before Judge Emile St. Pierre.
“I would like to extend my sincerest appreciation to the jury for their service and their verdict,” District Attorney Harry Morel Jr. said. “I am very satisfied that we were able to bring this case to a conclusion so quickly with the assistance of the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.”
