Marrero man accused of raping Luling woman

Michael Sean Granier, 40, of Marrero has been arrested and charged with forcible rape of a Luling woman.

St. Charles Sheriff’s Office spokesman Dwayne LaGrange said the victim, whose name was withheld to protect her identity, told police that Granier came to her residence on July 9 to pick up an unidentified item. The woman said she went to her bedroom to get it, but wasn’t aware that Granier had followed her there, and sexually assaulted her.

She told police she tried to fight him off, but he overpowered her, according to LaGrange. Granier left the residence and she contacted the Sheriff’s Office.LaGrange said the two knew each other prior to the alleged rape.

As of Monday, Granier was being held in Nelson Coleman Correctional Center on $100,000 bond. His arraignment is scheduled Aug. 11.

According to Louisiana law, forcible rape is when the sexual assault occurs without the victim’s lawful consent because it is committed when the victim is prevented from resisting by force or by threat of physical violence where the victim reasonably believes that resistance could not prevent the rape.

Also, it is also defined as forcible rape if the victim is drugged by the offender and occurs without the victim’s knowledge.

If convicted, Granier faces a jail sentence with hard labor of five to 40 years.
