Man that led officers on high-speed chase gets 18 years

4,000 ecstasy tabs found at home, was making delivery to Destrehan at time of chase

A New Orleans man that led police on a high-speed chase in St. Charles Parish before more than 4,000 ecstasy tabs were found in his home was sentenced to 18 years in prison, according to U.S. Attorney Jim Letten.

41-year-old Clyde Sistrunk, who is originally from Chicago, was arrested on Sept. 24, 2008 after leading law enforcement officers on a high-speed car chase on Airline Highway. Sistrunk, who was the target of an undercover operation, was in route to deliver $2,000 worth of ecstasy to a location in Destrehan when officers attempted to stop him.

Sistrunk refused to pull over and was eventually forced out of the vehicle after running over road spikes.

After the vehicle stopped, Sistrunk jumped in the bayou and dissolved the ecstasy tabs that he was carrying. However, a search of his residence yielded more than 4,000 ecstasy tabs.

According to court documents, Sistrunk admitted that he had been in possession of over 50,000 ecstasy tabs.

In a press release, Letten said that the case was investigated by the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Drug Enforcement Administration. Those agencies and the prosecution were also assisted by the Terrebone Parish Sheriff’s Office, the New Orleans Police Department and two police departments in Illinois.
