Man in custody after driving into trio of Destrehan businesses

A man who reportedly drove his Toyota Tundra pickup truck into the front of three different Destrehan businesses was arrested Wednesday.

Anthony Manson Jr., a 22-year-old resident of St. Rose, is being charged with three counts of aggravated criminal damage to property and six counts of aggravated assault, according to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.

According to Sheriff’s Office spokesman Capt. Pat Yoes, the arrest was made shortly after the incident took place Wednesday morning. The businesses that incurred damage were Rotolo’s and Subway on Ormond Blvd. and Corner Market located on Airline Hwy.

There were no injuries, according to Yoes.

“It appears the man has some mental issues, according to his father. He hit three different locations … there’s obviously damage to the building and damage to the vehicle,” Yoes said.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Manson Jr. fled the scene by traveling south bound on Ormond Blvd, where he was stopped by deputies and detained.

Brian Long, co-owner of Bayou Pets in Destrehan, was outside of his business sweeping when he saw Subway hit.

“He kind of pulled up to the handicap ramp, sat there a second, hit the gas and hit the building,” Long said. “And prior to that, he drove into the Corner Market, pulled back out, went around, drove into Rotolo’s and backed out.

“There was glass all over the hood … I thought at first it was somebody having a medical problem. Thankfully, nobody got hurt.”

Long said he was shocked and immediately called 911.

The incident is still currently under investigation.  If anyone has any information regarding the incident, the Sheriff’s Office asks they contact Detective Jenni Barrette at (985)783-1135 or contact (985)783-6807.
