Maison Décor in full bloom

Today’s home is blossoming with springtime in full bloom, and plenty of people are looking to Maison Décor to help make their homes as visually pleasing as the season.

With a selection of more than 700 fountains, the Boutte store is uniquely qualified to help make that desire a reality. Those fountains come in a selection of 30 different colors, while a wide selection of statues, patio furniture and other popular items for those looking to add a little flavor to their residence.

Store owner Shane Matherne said those items not only find homes in the St. Charles Parish community — the store has cultivated a positive reputation in quite a few parts of the country, Matherne noting recent fountain shipments to Texas, South Dakota, Nebraska and Virginia.

Matherne, who has enjoyed doing business at his store for the past 16 years, said that with the number of people building new houses, he’s been quite busy of late. “(The fountains) are extremely popular,” Matherne said. “We have a lot of people who know that they want a fountain but may not know exactly what kind they want. So I’ll go out there to take a look, give them an idea, give them a few different options to say, ‘look, these will work good with your landscape, your house.’”

Getting that kind of feedback is easier than ever these days. Maison Décor has a social media presence on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, through which potential customers can send photos of their home and Matherne can send instant feedback and suggestions.

Custom mailboxes, Matherne said, are also seeing a spike in their demand.

“Mailboxes are a huge thing right now, huge, with all the new construction going on,” he said. “ We do maintenance-free cast aluminum mailboxes, including the popular Fleur de Lis Barcelona, and we’ve got the best prices around.”

For those seeking an upgrade on their interior, Maison Décor offers numerous decorative items, such as wall plaques carrying New Orleans-based themes. Women’s blouses and Capri pants are also big sellers.

And the store is the lone authorized vendor of Yankee Candles in St. Charles Parish, which Matherne notes is the No. 1 ranked seller of candles in the U.S. over the past 40 years.

“The bottom line is that we just have good customers,” Matherne said. “For 16 years, that’s what it’s all about. We have some really, really good customers.”
