A 39-year-old Luling woman recently pleaded guilty to one count of filing a false tax return, according to U.S. Attorney Kenneth A. Polite. According to court records, Irons, a self-employed tax preparer, under-reported her taxable income for 2009 and 2010 to the IRS. According to Polite, this resulted in a tax loss to the United States in the amount of $88,203.00.
Irons faces a sentence of up to three years in prison, up to $100,000 in fines and up to one year of supervised release. U.S. District Judge Eldon Fallon set sentencing for September 1.
Polite praised the work of the Department of the Treasury/Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation team. Assistant United States Attorney Edward J. Rivera is in charge of the prosecution.
