Local arrested for fraudulent prescriptions

On Aug. 4, Lindsey Jeffers, 23, of 15212 U.S. 90, Paradis, was arrested on a warrant that was issued for three counts of writing a prescription for a controlled dangerous substance for a fictitious person. According to public information officer, Cpt. Pat Yoes of the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, Jeffers allegedly called in three fraudulent prescriptions to a pharmacy on fictitious people for Vicodin and Somas, which are both controlled substances.

The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s office issued the warrant on Aug. 2 after establishing probable cause when a pharmacist at the Wal-Mart pharmacy in Boutte contacted the sheriff’s office.

The pharmacist on duty at the time of the incident questioned the prescription request because of the quantity and type of medication, and in turn contacted the physician to verify.

The physician did not verify the order, and the police were notified immediately.

Jeffers met officers at the Nelson Coleman Correctional facility in Killona and turned herself in after becoming aware of the warrant.

Jeffers was released the same day of arrest on a $10,000 personal surety to family.
