Also says she is impressed with Parish’s St. Pierre
Senator Mary Landrieu plans to unite the River Parishes by making sure they get the funding they need to complete levee projects.
“I plan to take the concerns I heard from the parish presidents to Washington,” she said. “Hurricane protection, rising costs of health insurance and pumps were a few things that seemed pressing to the River Parishes.”
Landrieu says she looks forward to working with St. Charles Parish President V.J. St. Pierre and all of the newly elected St. Charles Parish officials.
“I know in St. Charles Parish there are a lot of brand new faces,” she said. “I want to do my part to assist the new elected officials in any way I can.”
Landrieu says there will be some important conferences coming up and she encourages the River Parish leaders to attend those in order to bring their concerns to the forefront.
“There will be much discussion about hurricane protection and my role will be to make sure that every resource is available for the River Parishes,” she said. “I will leave the actual planning about the levee system to the local government.”
Landrieu urged leaders to be patient and encouraged them to participate in upcoming Washington events that will focus on funding projects for the levees.
“I’m encouraging all of the newly elected officials to take part in the conferences because it’s another open forum for their discussions to be brought to Washington,” Landrieu said.
Landrieu spoke at Bull’s Corner restaurant in LaPlace with more than 40 government officials.
“I’m really impressed with V.J. St. Pierre and I look forward to working with him in the future,” Landrieu said. “As an honorably discharged disabled Vietnam veteran and someone that has worked hard over the years to get his own business. He’s an excellent example of hard work and earnest leadership.”
