Lafon Arts Center season tickets available as it kicks off its inaugural season

Offering a dynamic lineup of performances, the Dr. Rodney R. Lafon Performing Arts Center’s 2019-20 season tickets are available for adult and childrens’ productions.

“We are so excited about it,” said Center Director Christopher Melohn. “What makes this inaugural season exciting is it’s mixed dance, music, theater, visual arts and film. It’s a true performing arts center experience, which makes it a really special season to premiere.”

Billed as the “Season of Shows,” patrons are encouraged to buy season tickets by late July to ensure best seating, Melohn said.

“The community opted to build the building and we wanted to make these programs accessible to the community,” he said.

The arts center has been in full use with seating installed in the Shell Theatre this year. Located in Luling, the center’s mission is arts education. St. Charles Parish voters supported a 2015 referendum calling for a $35 million, 1,300-seat performing arts center, which was built on Judge Edward Dufresne Parkway.

The eight-show season includes Not so Classical, The Improvised Shakespeare, The Wizard of Oz, Harry Potter: The Sorcerer’s Stone In Concert, The Summer Club, The Nutcracker, Artrageous and Step Afrika!.

Tickets start at just $192 for all eight performances.

Those who buy 12 or more season tickets get a 10 percent discount and the tickets must be purchased directly at the Box Office.

Melohn said the BritBeat Tribute to the Beatles performance scheduled Aug. 17 would offer any prospective season ticket buyer “a sneak peak” on a desired seat for the season.

The Lafon Performing Arts Center is also selling season tickets for its PALSS season offering a production lineup appealing to children ages 3 to 9.

The productions include The Three Little Pigs, Charlotte’s Web, A Charlie Brown Christmas, Pinocchio and Rapunzel.

In what Melohn referred to as the “Lagniappe Lineup,” ticket buyers can see even more performances on a per-show basis.

The lineup includes BritBeat: A Tribute to the Beatles, Lightwire Theater’s A Very Electric Christmas, Vocave, That Golden Girls Show: A Puppet Parody, Ailey II and Ken Waldman: A Night of Fiddle & Poetry.

All proceeds from ticket sales go to support students in grades K – 8 attending the performances, Melohn said. Also, students get to work with the artists in workshops and residencies.

“All the students have access to these world renowned and traveling artists,” he said. “And they get to do their own performances on the same stage. It’s pretty exciting.”
