Kentucky man is holder of $1M ticket sold at Ama gas station

The suspense is over.

David and Shawna Henderson of Hawesville, Ky., are the winners of the million-dollar Powerball ticket sold at an Ama gas station.

The mystery is over how they bought the ticket is over, too.

David Henderson, who works on a boat that travels up and down the Mississippi River, frequently buys lotto tickets in his travels, and this one paid off bigtime.

Louisiana Lottery Corp. had recently announced the winning ticket on it its Facebook page that a $1 million winning ticket had been sold at an Ama gas station.

The message reads: “Winner alert! A ticket purchased at Phillips 66, located at 10399 River Road in Ama, was a $1 million winner during Saturday night’s Powerball drawing! The winnings numbers were 03-27-36-56-69.”

Louisiana Lottery spokeswoman Kimberly Chopin confirmed the validity of the message, as well as the winning numbers. By Friday, Chopin confirmed the winners are the Hendersons, who had 180 days from the day of the June 25 drawing, which is how long this person has to show up at Louisiana Lottery’s main office in Baton Rouge with the winning ticket to claim the prize, Chopin said.

Attendants at the gas station, which clarified it is a Shell station, confirmed they’d been notified that the winning ticket had been sold there. They also said Louisiana Lottery had placed a sign there announcing the win.

Chopin added, “It might be helpful to know that on this size prize, the retailer also gets 1 percent bonus or $10,000 in this case for selling the winning ticket.”
