St. Charles Parish residents, like many across the nation, are watching gas prices skyrocket. Many are being cautious, counting every penny spent at the pumps while they wonder when they will get some relief.
“I drive a Yukon,” Janice Johnson said. “It cost me $110 per week to keep the vehicle filled up.”
Johnson joked that soon she may have to take a bike to work.
Another resident, Chris Twiner, says even doing maintenance on his yard is costing him more than ever before.
“Just to fill up my power riding mower to cut my grass at my house cost me $65” he said. “The prices are pretty steep and ridiculous now.”
No one is sure what they’ll do when the gas pump tips to more than $4 per gallon.
“I had planned to take my son somewhere for Memorial Day weekend,” Donna Alexander said. “But the gas is so expensive we changed our minds and stayed at home.”
Although there were less people traveling this year, AAA Auto Club reports showed climbing gas prices and high airfares weren’t enough to keep most people home. The AAA says that more than two million motorists hit the highways during the Memorial Day weekend.
