Herald-Guide takes home 18 awards at press competition

The St. Charles Herald-Guide won 18 awards at the Louisiana Press Association competition, which was held at Marksville’s Paragon Casino last weekend.

The Herald-Guide won four first place awards, including Best Web Project, Best Retailer Ad, Advertising Idea or Promotion and In-Paper Promotion. The paper also placed in several other categories, including second place in Best Special Section for the 2010 Football Preview, second place in Best News Coverage and second in Best Overall Sports Coverage.

Lifestyles Editor Michelle Stuckey also picked up a second-place award for her three-part series on waivers issued at Luling Elementary, while Editor Jonathan Menard earned third-place honors for his story on former Destrehan High School football coach Stephen Robicheaux’s decision to step away from the gridiron.

Also, the paper won third place for its Lifestyle’s coverage while also capturing third in Advertising Idea orPromotion.

The paper also took home a handful of Honorable Mention awards for Best Front Page, Best Single Editorial, Best Photo Package, Best Overall Website, Most Effective Use of Graphic Design on a Single Page and Best Services Ad – Non Retail.

“We are proud of our paper’s accomplishments in 2010 and look to improve next year,” Menard said. “St. Charles Parish is a great community filled with wonderful people and we will continue to tell your stories.”

Advertising Director Brent Madere said the staff is dedicated to making the paper stand out.

“The St. Charles Herald-Guide is a well-run newspaper and the awards show how talented and dedicated our staff is,” Madere said. “I felt we should have more first place awards, but the judges thought differently.

“We will continue to bring new ideas and creativity to the advertisers of the Herald-Guide to give them ads that are attractive, appealing and most of all will help their businesses grow.”
