Wife arrested and charged as accomplice
A prisoner who escaped from the Nelson Coleman Correctional Facility early Tuesday morning was free for about 11 hours before being apprehended later that afternoon.
Charles J. Conrad III, 34, who has been imprisoned since 2011 on armed robbery and 2nd degree battery charge, was working in the prison kitchen when he scaled a fence near the facility’s dumpster at around 4:30 a.m. and escaped.
The Sheriff’s Office reported that Conrad had family in the St. Rose and Kenner areas and later that he had contacted his wife, Erica Williams, 36, of 937 Ronson Street in Kenner, to pick him up in a vehicle.
Warrants were issued midday for Conrad for Escape and Williams for Principle to Escape, both of whom the Sheriff’s Office considered armed and dangerous.
Around 3 p.m. Sheriff Greg Champagne reported that Conrad had been apprehended without incident by deputies and detectives in Kenner motel.
At 6 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office reported Williams was arrested at her home.
