Will serve 6 years in jail, must pay $160,000 to family
A woman who police say was drunk when she crashed into a car and killed the aunt and uncle of Tennessee Titan tight end Delanie Walker will serve six years in jail after pleading guilty to two counts of vehicular negligent homicide.
Nechole Thomas, 27, of Houston, must also pay family members of the victim a combined $160,000.
Alice Young, 42, and Bryan Young Sr., 54, both of California, were killed on I-10 over the Bonnet Carre Spillway in Norco last year on their way home from watching the Super Bowl. Their nephew was a member of the San Francisco 49ers at the time.
According to State Police, the Youngs had stopped their Nissan Altima on the shoulder of I-10 for unknown reasons. Thomas was speeding when she ran her Mercedes C230 into the back of the Youngs’ vehicle.
Authorities say that Thomas’ blood alcohol level was over the legal limit.
Both cars caught on fire, but Thomas was able to escape with minor injuries. The Youngs were discovered in their car after the fire was extinguished and were both pronounced dead at the scene.
Thomas, who had a previous DWI conviction, was sentenced to 25 years but 14 years were suspended. She will spend six years in jail and five years in home incarceration.
She was ordered to pay $20,000 each to eight of the Youngs’ relatives.
