Dow awards $50,000 for community projects

St. Charles Dow Operations recently awarded more than $50,000 to 13 non-profit organizations for an array of projects that positively impact the parish with the site’s 2007 Community Grant Program. This is the fifth year of Dow’s Community Grant Program, which has cumulatively given more than $215,000 in funding to local organizations.

The 2007 grants were distributed at a ceremony held on August 30 at the Dow facility in Hahnville.

A committee of Dow employees and community residents reviewed the proposals and selected the projects that best matched the criteria for the program.

Projects selected emphasized relationship building with the community through interaction, rather than simply providing funds to an organization in exchange for promotional opportunities.

The projects also address a specific community need, solve a problem or provide enhancement to the community. To qualify, organizations must have a 501(c)(3) non-profit tax designation, be a parish government agency or other organization that meets the criteria.
