A Monday night car crash in Lafourche Parish claimed the life of a 21-year-old Destrehan woman.
According to Louisiana State Police, Kayla Blyden Brown suffered fatal injuries after the vehicle she was driving crashed near LA 308 near Peltier Drive in Raceland. It was a single-vehicle crash.
State police spokesman Jesse LaGrange said an initial investigation revealed Brown was traveling south on LA 308 in a 2006 Pontiac G6 when she entered a right curve in the highway and lost control of her vehicle. The vehicle ran off the side of the road and struck a utility pole head-on before striking a large pine tree.
Brown was not wearing her seat belt, according to police, and had to be extricated from the vehicle. She died shortly after.
Impairment is unknown as a factor in the crash, LaGrange said, however, a standard toxicology report is pending through the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office.
