Convicted Destrehan sex offender sentenced to 20 years for sexual battery

Victims were both under age of 10

A 54-year-old Destrehan man found guilty of oral sexual battery of two juvenile girls was sentenced to 20 years in state prison.

The man, whose name was withheld to protect the identity of the victims, was sentenced in St. Charles Parish’s 29th Judicial District Court in Hahnville by Judge Emile St. Pierre.

According to court records, Assistant District Attorney Connie Aucoin recommended the sentence of 10 years per count in prison.

Arrested and charged in November, he was convicted of assaulting a 7-year-old victim who was related to him and another 8-year-old victim described as a family friend.The crimes occurred in the man’s Destrehan residence, according to court records.

The first victim told a family member about the incident and a Sheriff’s Office investigation led to discovery of the second victim.

The sentence must be served without benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence. The sentence includes credit of 188 days for time already served in parish prison.

As part of the sentence, upon his release from prison, he is required to register as a sex offender with local law enforcement. He is also required to re-register each year.
