Cody Dufrene was arrested in May after a Des Allemands woman told police that pictures of her were uploaded to cloud-based service Dropbox. The woman had brought her phone in to get a cracked screen repaired at Luling’s Repair Dat in February and she believed that’s where the theft of her pictures took place.

Dufrene allegedly downloaded pictures from the woman’s cell phone without her permission and was sharing them with friends through Dropbox, according to Sgt. Dwayne LaGrange, spokesman for the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Dropbox is a cloud service that allows people to upload photos, documents and videos and access them from any location.

After investigating the incident, detectives seized electronic equipment and found pictures that they suspect were downloaded from the victim’s cell phone, LaGrange said.Dufrene was arrested and charged with video voyeurism, defamation and offenses against intellectual property.

However, the charges were nolle prossed and Dufrene was put into a pre-trial intervention program, which is for first-time offenders.

By successfully completing the terms of the program, Dufrene may be able to avoid having a criminal record.
