Boutte man convicted of murder in 2014 shooting

A Boutte man has been found guilty of second-degree murder in the 2014 Christmas shooting of David Scott, 23, of Houston.

Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry said a St. Charles Parish jury unanimously found Larry Thompson, 35, guilty of murder and obstruction of justice.

Thompson faces a sentence of life imprisonment, according to the state AG. He is expected to be sentenced on Sept. 20.

“Today’s verdict is the culmination of years of great investigative work by Sheriff Greg Champagne’s Office and the prosecutorial efforts by my assistant Attorneys General Matthew Derbes and Molly Lancaster,” Landry said. “Together, we have brought Mr. Thompson to justice and hopefully delivered some closure to the Scott family.”

In December of 2014, Thompson was arrested in connection with shooting Scott to death and a second man in the foot at the Butt Cuts Bar on Joe Louis Lane.

Thompson had apparently argued with Scott over him being with his former girlfriend at the bar, according to Sheriff’s detectives.

By 12:20 a.m., Scott was found dead on the floor with multiple gunshot wounds by authorities.

With assistance from U.S. Marshals, detectives located Thompson, who was hiding in a Kenner apartment complex, and arrested him. He was charged with second-degree murder and aggravated battery.
