Boutte man charged in assisted suicide

Suspected of giving girlfriend gun after she said she wanted to shoot herself

A 55-year-old Boutte man was arrested for allegedly giving his girlfriend a gun to commit suicide and then waiting 45 minutes before calling the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office after she shot herself.

The woman was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene.

According to the police report, when officers arrived Bryan Mayeux told them that he and his live-in girlfriend had been out having a “good time,” but had gotten into an argument when they returned home. Mayeux told the officers that his girlfriend had eventually shot herself in the chest with a .22 caliber gun.

Mayeux then led officers to the body.

When officers reached the bedroom, they saw that the woman’s body was partially covered with a multi-colored blanket and a blue sleeveless gown. Her upper torso, from just below the chest to above the naval, was exposed. According to the report, the officers observed an apparent entry wound just below her chest, but only saw a small amount of what appeared to be blood on the blue gown. The woman had no vital signs and was cold to the touch.

Officers found the room in disarray, with the entry door frame stacked in the hall outside the bedroom and wood splinters from the door at the foot of the bed. The closet door towards the front of the home had also been knocked down and there were pieces of broken light bulb on the floor near the bed.

A gun was on the nightstand, but officers noticed that it was out of reach from the woman’s location. There was also a hole in a lampshade on the nightstand with what appeared to be powder burns on the shade.

While outside the residence, the report says that Mayeux made several attempts to re-enter the house and became irate towards officers.

He was then arrested and is being held on a $200,000 bond. He is being charged with criminal assistance to suicide.
