Body of bridge jumper found in Norco

Police from St. Charles, Jefferson and Kenner departments descended on Norco Wednesday morning after a body was found floating in the Mississippi River by Valero employees.

A body was found floating in the Mississippi River near Valero this morning at 8:19 a.m. After an autopsy, the body has been identified as Kylan Laurent, the man who jumped off the Veterans Memorial Bridge more than a week ago.

Laurent, a 22-year-old Vacherie man, abandoned his car on the Veterans Memorial Bridge and jumped into the river after a high-speed chase with State Police on Aug. 23. Laurent is a suspect in a prostitute’s killing in Kenner and a person of interest in the murder of a prostitute in Metairie.

Police said that tattoos on the body found in Norco were consistent with those of Laurent.

Captain Pat Yoes of the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office said that Valero workers saw the body floating about 75 yards offshore and were able to get it out of the water with the help of the Port of South Louisiana.

The body was transported to the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office where an autopsy was performed. Kenner, Jefferson and State police were also on the scene.
