Birthday leads to Killona shooting

A 1-year-old toddler’s birthday party will forever be marred with snapshot images of blood and the echoing sound of gunshots after a verbal altercation between two men turned violent.

According to St. Charles Parish Sheriff Greg Champagne, approximately 100 people were in attendance when a 29-year-old Hahnville man was shot in the arm at the Killona Ball Park on May 24 after getting in an altercation with another man. Two other people at the party were also shot.

“We have three male suspects wanted on charges of attempted murder,” Champagne said. “Our investigation has determined that during the altercation the three suspects allegedly fired shots at the victim. During the incident, two other victims also sustained gunshot wounds.”

Two of the victims were treated and released the same night – the 29-year-old Hahnville man and another man who was shot in the leg.

The third victim, the father who hosted the birthday party,  remains in ICU in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Champagne says that after the argument, family members asked the instigator to leave the party, which he did. However, he returned shortly after – armed with weapons and two friends.

“It is believed that when the suspect returned to the party with his friends, they opened fire on the party, injuring three individuals,” added Champagne. “We’re actively scouring the Killona area and believe that the suspects are hiding out.”

Wanted are Aaron Williams, 23, of Killona Dr. in Killona, Bobby J. Williams Jr., 26, also of Killona, and Davin I. Washington, 21, of 364 Trailsway Dr. in Hahnville.

Champagne says that all three suspects have prior records and are presumed to be armed and dangerous.

Anyone having any information on the whereabouts of these three individuals are asked to contact Det. Dewhirst at 985-783-1135 or 985-783-6807.
