Attempted murderer gets 20 years, burglars get 10

A 21-year-old St. Rose resident, who was arrested for shooting a man in the neck on Dec. 4, received a 20-year sentence after pleading guilty to attempted second degree murder.

Christopher Johnson shot the victim as he was taking out the garbage after the two had gotten into an altercation over $10. Johnson will be required to serve 85 percent of the sentence before he will be eligible for release.

Johnson is also facing pending charges in Jefferson Parish for two counts of armed robbery.

“Mr. Johnson has proven through his repeated criminal acts that he cannot function outside of a prison environment,” District Attorney Harry J. Morel, Jr. said. “Therefore, we sought to remove him from the general public.”

Two men also received 10 year sentences with the Louisiana Department of Corrections on Jan. 10 after pleading guilty to five counts of simple burglary of inhabited dwellings.
Shaine Ahysen, 20, of Waggaman and James Akins, 20, of Harahan pled guilty to the burglary charges. Judge Emile R. St. Pierre ordered a pre-sentence investigation and sentenced Ahysen pursuant to findings in that investigation.

Atkins pled guilty to five counts of burglary pursuant to the charges. Both men received decade long sentences, for a rash of break-ins that occurred in the Ormond subdivision in Destrehan.
