Bond for the Kenner man arrested and charged with second-degree murder of 16-year-old Jorion White and tossing her body in a drainage canal in St. Rose last week has been set at $1 million.
Daniel Lee Beckley, 40, of 2614 Phoenix Drive in Kenner, was arrested Monday (May 2) on charges of second-degree murder and obstruction of justice, St. Charles Parish Sheriff Greg Champagne announced at a Monday press conference.
Beckley’s arraignment is June 1.
Beckley was the live-in boyfriend of White’s mother Michelle Price. He had lived at the residence for the past 10 years.
White was reported missing by her family April 22 after not arriving to her classes at Bonnabel High School that day. She had last been seen the previous night at her Kenner home.
Two days later, the worst was confirmed: White’s body was found in a ditch along St. Rose Ave. in St. Rose on April 24, reportedly by a passenger in a passing vehicle. She was discovered in a secluded, wooded area located a half-mile north of the nearest residence. White was reportedly found without clothing, with only pink rollers in her hair.
The state of her body, which was found in an advanced state of decomposition, and other evidence, police believe homicidal violence was the cause of death.
Judge Timothy Marcel signed an arrest warrant Monday morning and St. Charles Parish officers arrested Beckley without incident. Marcel set Beckley’s bond Tuesday.
Champagne said no motive has been determined as of yet and that the investigation is still ongoing. Because the location of the homicide is unknown, the law dictates that the parish where the body was found is where the prosecution takes place.
Beckley is being held at Nelson Coleman Correctional Facility.
