A man driving a pick-up truck plowed into the back of a St. Charles Parish school bus injuring 17 children, the school bus driver, and himself. Sgt. Dwayne LaGrange, speaking for the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s office says that a pick-up truck driven by Willie Young IV, 21, of 331 Lillie Street, in Boutte collided with a school bus, driven by Alexis Walker, 39 on Paul Frederick Street, in Luling.
“At 7:12, Monday morning, March 5, the driver of the pick-up truck hit the back of the school bus as the driver was transporting children to Raymond K. Smith Middle School in Hahnville,” LaGrange told the Herald-Guide.
Rochelle Cancienne, public information director for St. Charles Parish Public Schools, says 12 students who complained of sore necks and backs were picked-up by ambulance at the accident site and taken to St. Charles Parish Hospital.
Cancienne says that students who were not taken to the hospital were brought to school, and all parents were notified.
“Five more students were signed out of school by their parents,” she continued.
“Nine of the 17 children who were treated for injuries are back in school.”
LaGrange says Walker, the driver of the bus, complained about neck pain and was transported by ambulance to SCPH.
Young was also treated at SCPH for a back injury.
“The driver of the pick-up was cited for careless operation of a motor vehicle-no other charges have been filed,” LaGrange said.
Bank robbed – and here’s the suspect
Sheriff Greg Champagne is seeking your help in learning the identity of a subject who robbed the Capital One Bank in Destrehan at 9:08 a.m. Monday, March 5.
An unknown white male entered the bank and handed the teller a note demanding money. The suspect implied that he had a weapon. The suspect is approximately 5’6 – 5’8, thin with blue eyes, wearing a blue sweatshirt with a hood, with “Old Navy” on the sweatshirt, a dark ball cap, and a white t-shirt with jeans.
The teller complied, at which time the subject fled the scene northbound on foot.
This incident is under investigation. Anyone having any information is asked to contact the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office at 985-783-6807 or Crime Stoppers at 1-877-903-STOP. Citizens do not have to give their name nor testify and could receive up to $5000.
