Nearly 100 HHS students gathered in support of Florida shooting victims

Held unified circle on school campus

Nearly 100 Hahnville High School students formed a unity circle today (March 14) on the school campus as a symbol of unity to honor the victims of the Parkland, Fla., school shooting.

Today is National Walkout Day where thousands of students, teachers and staff staged a temporary walkout in support of the Parkland, Fla., students who were killed a month ago.

Additionally, HHS students were able to dress down in orange for a $1 donation, said Stevie Crovetto, spokeswoman for St. Charles Parish Schools. The school has raised more than $1,400 through this effort, and the money will be sent to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. The school will then be able to decide how to best use the funds donated from Hahnville High School students.

HHS Principal Brian Lumar added, “Today, on this one month anniversary of the tragedy in Parkland, Fla., students were encouraged to find 17 people, one for every life lost – 17 people that you’ve never spoken to … and just talk to them, even if it’s just telling them hello.”

Lumar said it would make a difference and it’ll be a sincere way to honor those whose lives were tragically taken at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.
