June is ‘Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat’ month and the St. Charles Parish animal control staff urges residents to adopt a cat or kitten.
There is a $60 cost to adopt the animals but the fee includes services like spaying or neutering, deworming, and appropriate vaccinations.
“We have over 100 cats, (including kittens) needing adoption and we hope to get most of them adopted this month,” Jennifer King, president of the St. Charles Humane Society told the Herald-Guide.
“When people come in to adopt cats or kittens we always ask them to take two,” she said.
“Cats are pack animals which mean they prefer to have a buddy and why not give two cats a home instead of just one?”
Cats are clean animals but proper care is required by the owner.
Angie Robert, animal control specialist list these tips for cat lovers who want to adopt a cat this month.
“Make sure your cat’s litter box is cleaned daily,” Guidry said. “Always get your cat’s yearly vaccinations from the veterinarian clinic,” she continued.
“A good way to tell if your cat is not feeling well is he’ll start urinating in spots other than his litter box.
“Take him to the vet immediately, because it could be a sign that it has a bladder infection,” she said.
“Cats are claustrophobic, never keep them in a cage.”
