The 2007 Alligator Festival delivers good food, good music, good friends and breaks records for patron attendance along with food and entertainment sales.
The St. Charles Parish Rotary Club rolled out the red carpet last weekend at the Westbank Bridge Park in Luling for the “King of the Swamp” at the 28th Annual Alligator Festival – and patron of the event said that this year was better than ever.
“It’s a tradition for my family to get together and go to the festival each year,” said Joe Zeringue of Paradis.
“But for some reason this year feels different, like there’s something new in the air,” he continued.
Well, we’re not quite sure what Zeringue was talking about, but it could have been the aroma of the many alligator dishes being whipped up from one side of the fest to the other.
Or that “something different” could be the tons of people that walked the perimeter of the festival considering that rotary club officials said that this year the event drew in record crowds.
And although the final figures have yet to be tallied, rotary members are saying that the 2007 Alligator Festival sales have topped many of the previous year’s tallies.
The Alligator Festival, which originated as a small gathering in the Willowdale Country Club parking lot 27 years ago, attracts people from all over the region, and the proceeds now fund 10 college scholarships each year for students from Hahnville and Destrehan High Schools.
