Petit receives Menezes scholarship

Congratulations to Hahnville High senior, Allie Michele Petit who was named the recipient of the 2009 Robert C. Menezes, Sr. Memorial Community Scholarship Tuesday evening, May 19, at Hahnville High School’s graduation ceremony held in the John A. Alario Center in Westwego.

The $5,000 scholarship is awarded to a student who has demonstrated leadership abilities, academic achievement, and contributions to the local community.

The scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior selected by the school and is in memory of Bob Menezes, who was coach and later principal of Hahnville High School for twenty years until his death from cancer in 1975.

Caleb Lampert recipient of Alabama’s Crimson award

Congratulations to Hahnville High senior, Caleb Andrew Lampert who was named recipient of the University of Alabama’s Crimson Scholarship, alumni heritage award, alumni scholar award, and the Harvey and Cile Blanchard Award that includes tuition, housing, $1,500 annual stipend, book scholarship and laptop – totaling the scholarship package worth $103,000.

Lampert received the scholarship Tuesday night, May 19, at Hahnville High School’s graduation ceremony held in the John A. Alario Center in Westwego.

Lampert was one of only eight recipients of this award, and the only out-of-state student to receive one.

Hahnville senior named a national merit finalist

Congratulations to Hahnville High senior, Eric Houston Bishop who was named recipient of the University of Alabama’s national merit finalist award that includes tuition, housing, a $1,000 annual stipend, a one-time $2,000 study abroad grant and a laptop, making the scholarship package worth $96,600.

Bishop received the scholarship Tuesday night, May 19, at Hahnville High School’s graduation ceremony held in the John A. Alario Center in Westwego.

Two HHS seniors receive anniversary scholarship

Congratulations to Hahnville High seniors, John Morris Prendergast and Franziska Josephine Paul Wagner who were named recipients of the Hahnville High School Class of 1957 Anniversary Endowed Scholarships to the University of Louisiana-Lafayette.

These $2,500 scholarships are awarded to students who will enter the freshman class at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. The two annual recipients will apply the awards to their freshman year at ULL.

One $2,500 scholarship is for a student entering the educational field, to insure the development of teachers who will continue to promote the importance of education.

One $2,500 scholarship is for a student entering the engineering field, to provide a basis for continual technical contributions from HHS graduates. The endowed scholarships are in recognition of the excellent preparation that HHS teachers, coaches and principals provided for the class of 1957, and in recognition of the 1957 classmates who shared in that educational experience. These scholarships are awarded on an annual basis.

John Prendergast graduated summa cum laude, and was a member of the Beta Club for four years.

Prendergast also participated in the Louisiana Engineering Advancement Program for three years and Fellowship of Christian Athletes for two years.

He volunteers as a math tutor after school. John has been a member of the U.S. Foundation for Inspiration & Recognition of Science & Technology for three years. John is the son of Allison and Michael Prendergast of Luling.

Franziska Wagner graduated magna cum laude, and was a member of the Beta Club for two years. Wagner also participated in the Louisiana Engineering Advancement Program for two years, served as the President, and was responsible for its Web site design.

Franziska was a 4-year member of the marching band and the choir. She is the daughter of Peter and Gayle Wagner of Luling.
