Two public school teachers receive national certification

Two St. Charles Parish Public School teachers recently earned certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.

Nicole Weber of New Sarpy Elementary and Patricia Candies of St. Rose Elementary joined the ranks of more than 100 elite educators in the state.

Weber teaches 1st grade and was certified as an early childhood generalist. She is also her school’s technology site coordinator, School Improvement Team chair and a member of the district’s literacy redesign team.

Candies is a 4th grade teacher and was certified as a reading/language arts and early and middle childhood specialist. Last year, she was name dSt. Charles Parish and Region I Elementary School Teacher of the Year and was a state finalist for the same award.

Teachers must demonstrate their knowledge and skills over a year-long series of performance-based assessments and complete written tests in the subject area they teach to earn certification. Teachers who earn national certification may receive a $5,000 bonus each year for the 10-year life of the certification.
