The 4th Annual Spring Trash Bash took place last weekend with more than 100 volunteers picking up garbage to beautify St. Charles Parish roadways.
Last weekend, about 140 volunteers hit the streets to clean up the parish. (This is a preliminary number from this spring’s event.)
Trash Bash is made possible each year with the help of a grant through the Keep Louisiana Beautiful Healthy Communities Program and other donations.
The Harry Hurst Middle School Wetland Watchers and Oldies But Goodies dance and social club provided entertainment at the celebration following the clean-up event.
Last spring, 266 volunteers filled more than 175 bags with roadside litter and 25 bags with recyclable materials. A total of about 4,050 pounds of garbage was collected.

Residents can help clean the parish any time during the year — and they can start in their own homes by recycling.
Recycling bins are set up at multiple locations around the parish, including Lakewood Elementary School in Luling, the Professional Learning Center in Luling, Winn-Dixie in Luling, Landry Alternative Center in Hahnville, Hahnville High School in Boutte, J.B. Martin Middle in Paradis, West Bank Bridge Park, IMTT Field in St. Rose, East Bank Bridge Park, East St. Charles Fire Station in Destrehan, Spillway Levee Batture in Norco and Montz Park.
