Six-year-old shows off green thumb
Adam Duhe loves to watch plants grow and flowers bloom in his grandmother, Brenda Duhe’s, garden, and recently he decided to try his hand at gardening by planting sunflower seeds. The six-year-old boy decided that the flower garden in his grandparents front-yard would be the perfect home for what he hoped to become beautiful sunflowers.
Several days after planting the seeds, Adam’s grandmother could hear him squealing with excitement over what was now the birth of tiny sunflower sprouts.
Adam thus had his first lesson in horticulture and learned the definition of the word germinate.
The sunflowers continued to grow and tower near the roof of Brenda’s house attracting neighbors and passersby to stop and admire the flowers.
So where does Adam get his green thumb? Probably from his grandfather Tommy Duhe, former athletics coach for Destrehan High School.
According to Brenda, Tommy was very active in the landscaping projects on the DHS campus, and it appears that Adam has inhereited his niche for gardening.
Brenda says that Adam has already moved on to growing beets and radishes, and has planted the seeds from peaches his aunt brought home from South Carolina.
