Schexnaydre receives state award, national recognition for dissertation

David Schexnaydre Jr, an assistant principal at J.B. Martin Middle School, recently received both state and national level recognition for his doctoral dissertation. The recognition was based on Schexnaydre’s work, entitled “The Impact of Louisiana’s COMPASS Teacher Evaluation System on Principals in One School District: A Case Study.” Schexnaydre recently completed the dissertation as a requirement for his Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Administration. He will graduate from the University of New Orleans this May.

At the state level, Schexnaydre’s work was selected for him to present at the Louisiana Educational Research Association’s annual conference. The conference was held in Lafayette, and while presenting there, Schexnaydre was awarded with LERA Outstanding Graduate Student Research Paper Award as the author of the best education dissertation in the state. As a result, a journal article resulting from the dissertation will be published in LERA’s online journal, Research Issues in Contemporary Education, later this year.

At the national level, Schexnaydre’s work was selected by the American Educational Research Association for inclusion in their annual conference. Schexnaydre was selected to participate in the Division A Graduate Student Dialogic Forum, which was held at AERA’s conference in Washington, D.C. While there, Schexnaydre presented and discussed his work at a round table discussion and was given guidance by a mentor on the next steps for utilizing his research in subsequent journal articles or a book.

Schexnaydre has been a St. Charles Parish Public Schools employee for 11 years. He taught for seven years at R.K. Smith, where he was the R.K. Smith Teacher of the Year in 2009 and the Louisiana Middle School Association Teacher of the Year in 2011. He was then appointed as an assistant principal at J.B. Martin, where he is currently completing his fourth year. He is a 2001 graduate of Destrehan High School, where he attended prior to receiving his Bacherlor’s at Louisiana State University and Master’s and PhD from the University of New Orleans.
