River Region Arts and Humanities Council to host fundraising tea on May 9

The River Region Arts & Humanities Council is hosting the annual fundraising tea on May 9 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Ormond Plantation, 13783 River Road Destrehan.

The River Region Arts & Humanities Council is hosting the annual fundraising tea on May 9 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Ormond Plantation, 13783 River Road Destrehan.

The event is open to the public.

The theme for this year’s fundraising tea is “A Proper English Tea – With a Southern Accent.”

The event will feature live music by local students and a silent auction. Items in the auction will be jewelry from Roussel’s Fine Jewelry and Gifts and from Lee Michael s Fine Jewelry, and an original painting by a local artist.

Tickets are $40 per person and include a full English Tea and complimentary champagne.

Tickets will also be available the day of the event.The River Region Arts & Humanities Council was founded on the premise that the arts and humanities are an integral part of everyday life.

The purpose of the council is to serve as an umbrella organization to enrich the quality of life within the region through the promotion of the arts and humanities, the preservation and enhancement of local culture, and the support of art education through fund-raising and program development in the River Parish Region.

The council’s membership includes citizens from St. Charles, St. John the Baptist and St. James parishes. Since 1997, the arts council has awarded more than $370,000 in grants.
