River Parishes Hospital has two nurses who were named 2010 “Great 100” Nurses. Chris Gatlin, Nurse Manager of the Medical/Surgical Unit and Intensive Care Unit, and Janell Bryant, a Registered Nurse in the Outpatient Services Unit, were recognized for their hard work and achievements.
Gatlin and Bryant, along with 98 other nurses from Louisiana, were honored for their outstanding contributions to the nursing profession at the Great 100 Nurses Banquet, which was held at The Pontchartrain Center in Kenner.
Gatlin has been employed at River Parishes Hospital for six months. She has nearly 34 years of nursing experience and recently completed her PhD in workforce development and leadership with a dissertation on sustaining leadership skills for the nursing profession. Chris serves on several hospital committees and has spoken to many groups on various healthcare topics.
When asked how she feels being named to this prestigious honor, Gatlin said, “I am honored to be selected as a ‘Great 100′ Nurse because the quality of nurses selected have met the same standards that I have and are dedicated to the profession of nursing.”
Bryant has been a Registered Nurse at River Parishes Hospital for over 10 years. She served three years as an RN on the Medical/Surgical Unit and has spent the past seven years as an RN on the Outpatient Services Unit. Bryant has served as a preceptor for new nursing graduates, has volunteered to perform health screenings at the hospital’s health fair as well as at other health fairs in the community, and participates in the annual St. John Relay For Life event.
“It is an honor and a privilege to be recognized by my peers for this prestigious honor,” Bryant said.
