Des Allemands teen excels at horse show

Terry LeCompte, a local 4-H Club member in St. Charles and Terrebonne Parishes, recently placed ninth out of 39 contestants in the 14-years-and-older Reining Class at the 4-H Regional Horse Show in Little Rock, Ark.

His horse was Seekershine “Abbie”, an 8-year-old quarter horse mare. The Regional Show consisted of 4-H’ers from 12 states in the Southern United States.

Terry is the son of Michael LeCompte and Bettie LeCompte Naquin and is the stepson of Steve Naquin of Des Allemands. Bettie and Steve own the Rocking N Ranch LLC in Des Allemands.

In order for Terry to qualify for the Regional Show in Arkansas he had to compete at the 4-H District and State Horse Shows.

He won the 14-years-and-over reining class at the 4-H Southeast District Show in Baton Rouge and went on to win the state championship in the 14-and-over reining lass at the 4-H state show in West Monroe.

Only 42 riders in the halter and performance classes from each state are allowed to participate in the regional show in Arkansas.

Steve Naquin has been a 4-H volunteer and horse trainer for over 25 years. He regularly boards 4-H members’ horses at his ranch as well as provides training and riding lessons.
