Parish, New Beginnings partner to donate school supplies to Harvey victims

The St. Charles Parish school supplies drive generated 6,000 donations to help for Harvey victims return to school.

“Hurricane Harvey ruined the first month of school for many children,” said Dwayne LaGrange, the parish’s executive director of Community Development. “As a parish widely-known for putting an emphasis on education, we want to make sure that these kids have everything they need to start off what has already been a difficult school year. ”

The St. Charles Parish government partnered with the New Beginning Ministerial Alliance, the United Way of St. Charles and Walmart in Luling for the drive held at the Edward A. Dufresne Community Center.

Requested donations included pens, pencils, paper, notebooks, tissue, hand sanitizer, glue sticks, markers, and gift cards.

All supplies will be organized at the Edward A. Dufresne Community Center by the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP).
