Mardi Gras parades finally here

After months of preparation, the Luling and Des Allemands Mardi Gras parades will finally get the chance to roll through their respective towns this weekend, tossing out beads and other collectibles as they go.

The Krewe of Lul will have almost 900 riders at their 31st parade, one of which will be former LSU and Saints football player Hokie Gajan. Gajan will serve as grand marshall of the event.

In addition, the parade will also have the Peanut Butter float, which will collect peanut butter and donate it to St. Charles  Social Concerns. Parade organizers say that spectators can expect to see 30 floats, the Hahnville High School band, local fire departments, the festival king and queen and local dance schools.

The parade will begin on Feb. 2 at 12 p.m.

The Krewe of Des Allemands will have 18 floats at their parade and close to 360 riders.

The Hahnville marching band will perform in the parade and the Peanut Butter float, along with several dance schools, will also make an appearance. The parade is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. on Feb. 3.
