Local 4-H club represents at state competition

St. Charles 4-H members were asked to find their own beat at the 96th annual 4-H University program held at LSU in Baton Rouge. With over 45 contests and educational, members truly showcased their own talents and skills.

Members, ages 13-19, were given the opportunity to participate in 4-H this summer, with 22 St. Charles 4-H members attending the three-day event. During the event, they resided on the LSU campus, competed in state contests, participated in educational programs and established friendships with other 4-H members throughout Louisiana.

This year, 10 of the 17 St. Charles 4-H members who competed in state competitions ranked among the top percent in the state and received a blue ribbon. Teri Linton and Lani Maheu placed 4th in Solutions Unlimited. In the “4-H Has Talent” contest, Jasden Williams placed 5th by playing piano and singing to Alicia Keys’s latest hit, “Unthinkable,” and Heather Bergeron placed 14th singing and performing “I’m Yours” by Jason Mraz on an acoustic guitar. Mary Johns placed 2nd in the Dog Care competition. Sarah Theall placed 10th by sewing and modeling a garment for the Special Occasion Fashion Revue. Allison Dukes placed 8th in Public Speaking. Three St. Charles members even went home as state 1st place winners: Laura Theall in Child Development, Michelle Bourgeois in Dog Care and Victoria Caldarera in Creative Choice Fashion Revue. Bourgeois attended an educational awards trip to Chattanooga, Tenn. in July, and Laura and Victoria will be invited to attend an educational awards trip to Atlanta, Ga. in November.
