Lyrrice Mwaghore, daughter of Cresencia and Mwatibo Mwaghore of Luling, will represent J.B. Martin Middle School as its 2018-19 Student of the Year.

Lyrrice, a current 8th grade student, serves as a member of the J.B. Martin choir, through which she earned a place in the 2017 St. Charles Parish Honor Choir and was named 7th grade Choir Member of the Year in the 2017-2018 school term.  Additionally, she serves as an officer of the Junior Beta Club and has earned academic accolades including the 2017 Teacher’s Choice Award, Consecutive Principal’s List, and was chosen as a winner of the St. Charles Parish “Share the Dream” Essay Contest.  Lyrrice has been featured on stage at J.B. Martin in major roles in the annual school musical and in the Junior Beta Club’s group talent showcase.

Within the community of St. Charles Parish, Lyrrice serves her Celebration Church family as a youth worship leader and Club 56 assistant leader.  Her work as an assistant organizer for the Watoto Wa Kesho Organization allows her to help in the funding of education for the children of Kenya, her parents’ native country.

J.B. Martin choir director, Joshua Martin, describes Lyrrice as “an effervescent young woman whose good-natured humor, radiant smile, and willingness to tackle any challenge make her a leader among her peers and a standard of excellence for our student body.”

When asked about Lyrrice, 8th grade student Talia Diaz said, “A best friend doesn’t just like and dislike certain parts of you; they see you as a whole and still love you no matter what.  Somewhere in the world, you have a best friend – I’m just glad I’ve already found mine.”

Lyrrice will continue with the other St. Charles Parish middle school Students of the Year for the chance to be the district-level winner.
