Handmade instruments ‘on key’ with music appreciation at Harry Hurst Middle

DESTREHAN – The Music Appreciation classes at HMS have spent the last month studying the instruments of the orchestra, learning to identify the four families and the individual instruments that are specific to each family. Under the direction of Mr. Harrod’s student teacher from Nichols State University, Kellie Crowder has been taking charge of the music appreciation classes and this project in particular.

The assignment was for the student to use their imagination and create a homemade instrument and present it to the class.

Pictured are a few of the many interesting creations and designs by the students.

Crowder is currently having the students work on a new project “Music Through the Decades” where they will study how music has evolved and create a power point presentation at the end of the unit to present to the class.
