Glynn Boyd, Boutte native and 1980 Hahnville High School graduate, was recently promoted to anchor on ABC26 in New Orleans.
The Emmy award-winning journalist has interviewed such important people as Mother Theresa, Bill Clinton, Bill Crosby, Charles Barkley, Mikhail Gorbachev and the last six Louisiana governors.
Becoming an anchor at the station was one of Boyd’s goals before moving on in his career.
“It feels great. It’s been a long time coming,” he said. “It’s something you strive for and to see it become reality…it feels good.”
Boyd will co-host the 5 p.m. newscast Monday through Friday and also the 6 p.m. newscast on Friday.
Boyd has worked as a television reporter for 25 years and has been at ABC26 in New Orleans for the past 15 years.
Despite sitting behind the desk during the broadcast, Boyd said he will continue to go out in the community to report.
“I’m a reporter first, always will be,” he said.
In his new position, Boyd will be competing against his wife, Nancy Parker who is the 5 p.m. news anchor for Fox 8.
“I’ll be going up against her…she’s happy for me and she wants me to have success, but not too much success,” Boyd said, laughing.
His family still lives in Luling and Boutte and he attends the Mt. Airy Baptist Church in Boutte every Sunday. He also regularly attends sports games in the parish.
“I ask all my friends in the river parishes to change their viewing habits a little bit and check out their homeboy,” Boyd said.
Boyd said he loves bringing the news into area homes, but he does not see himself being a journalist forever.
He said that many people have urged him to go into politics and that he will consider running for an office when his children are older. He also said he hopes to own a consulting business for marketing and public relations.
