Hundreds of kids on the hunt for sweet treats gather at church’s annual Easter event
Children of all ages crowded the fields near the Bayou Gauche Fire Station to hunt for 10,000 plastic eggs stuffed with yummy candy last Sunday.
And folks at the Life Fellowship Community Church in Des Allemands didn’t hesitate to declare the 3rd annual “Jam-tastic Easter Egg Hunt and Family Fun Day” a hands-down winner.
There were lots of fun-filled activities to go along with the egg hunt, things like face painting, inflatable “space walks,” slides, free hot dogs and chili, and frosty snowballs.
Volunteers with even made colorful animal balloons for children and those young-at-heart adults.
But a few of the events that shined brightest amongst all the others were the puppet shows and sing-a-longs led by the church’s children’s pastor, Bridgette Domengeaux, and the face painting.
“The face painting was a big hit,” said Domengeaux. “We had some very talented painters this year.”
And parents who had the opportunity to attend the event with their children, toured the egg-hunting grounds
“Each year the church incorporates different activities to make the Easter-egg hunt exciting,” said Diego Sanchez, who lives only four blocks from the fire station.
“I especially liked the way all the great activities teach the kids the meaning behind Easter,” continued Sanchez.
The egg hunt was divided into four age categories.
And the child with the most eggs from his or her category won the top prize: a $15 gift card to Wal-Mart. Eight gift cards were given to hunt winners.
“We had about 400 in attendance and the children had a great time,” said Domengeaux.
“Our purpose for this event is to give St. Charles Parish a positive activity for the children and families to participate in.”
