Students at Destrehan and Hahnville high schools were treated recently to a live musical performance by Zydeco star Rockin Dopsie Jr. and DHS student Faith Becnel, a rising vocalist.
The two performed last Wednesday and Friday as part of DHS and HHS’ Black History Program. Becnel, who performed at the schools in 2015 as well, was able to bring Dopsie along this time for added star power: Becnel has performed with Dopsie’s band, Rockin Dopsie Jr. and the Zydeco Twisters. “It was just a cool experience,” Becnel said. “I’m always the most nervous performing in front of my peers, but he made me less nervous and more excited. He loved it. He really enjoyed the chance to connect with that young audience.”
