with the Krewe of Young at Heart

The 15th Annual Krewe of Young at Heart Ball was held on Jan. 15 at the Jerusalem Shring Center in Destrehan. The event was held by the St. Charles Council on Aging and St. Charles Parish Department of Parks and Recreation. The ball boasted 16 Maids and Dukes and 12 Lords and Ladies this year.

Mary Helen Haindle and Hurschel Burleigh were chosen as queen and king this year. They represent the Holy Family Catholic Church Busy Bees.

Haindle is a mother of five daughters, grandmother of eight and great-grandmother of one. Her husband was the late George Haindle. She is a parishioner at Holy Family Catholic Church where she retired as coordinator of the Busy Bees. She is also involved with the St. Charles Council on Aging and the Red Hat Society.

Burleigh is a father of five, grandfather of 14, great-grandfather of 7 and great-great-grandfather of one. His wife was the late Ruby Burleigh and he is retired from Monsanto. He is a parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church and leads the rosary at the Luling Living Center. He is also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2409.

Other members of the court were 2011 Maids and Dukes: Colette and Allen Lottinger representing St. Charles Social Concerns, Betty St. Amant and Harney Hooper representing St. Charles Council on Aging Hahnville Center, Dolly Bergeron and William Macloud representing St. Charles Council on Aging-YAHYAS Red Hats, Mitzi Gregoire and Vernon Fabre representing St. Charles Borromeo Nifty-Fifties, Marlys and Richard Dropik representing St. Charles Borromeo Nifty-Fifties, Dolly Madere and Allen Edwards representing St. Charles Council on Aging Luling Center, and Barbara and James Jeanfreau representing St. Charles Women’s Club; and 2011 Lords and Ladies: Dolores Bass and Henry Brady representing V.F.W. Post 3750 in Luling, Willa Scott and Jarrell Turner representing Friloux-Robinson American Legion Post 509, Johanna and Anthony Gelsomino representing St. Charles Parish Senior Bowlers, Jodie and Richard Harris representing Y.M.C.A.– Y.E.S. (YMCA Educational Services), and Mary Ann Theriot and Jerry Neiman representing St. Charles Council on Aging-YAHYAS Red Hats.
