Quincee Berthelot’s “Up, Up & Away” received the most votes – 101 to be exact – in the final round of the Herald-Guide’s 2007 Camera Shootout photo contest and is crowned as the first-ever $500 winner.
“Yes, yes, yes,” was pretty much all Berthelot could say when she received the phone call and found out that her picture was the grand prize winner.
Berthelot says that in addition to camping, baking and riverboat cruises, she loves photography.
“As long as I can remember, I always enjoyed taking pictures,” said Berthelot.
“And now it’s even more interesting because there are so many computer programs you can use to create photo keepsakes.”
Berthelot also says that photos are one of the best ways to remember the past.
“Photos are really great because years from now you can look back at pictures and remember so many events in your life,” said Berthelot.
When Berthelot isn’t busy snapping photos you can find her at the E.J. Landry Alternative Programs Center – she’s a secretary there for the St. Charles Parish School System.
Berthelot, who is also a licensed massage therapist and religious education teacher, is married to her husband of 27 years, Brice. They have two daughters, Dana, 24, and Kelly, 22.
So, how does this lucky lady plan on spending her winnings? Berthelot says that she will share the $500 with all five girls in the photograph.
“I told the girls that if I won, I’d give them each a crisp $100 bill,” said Berthelot. “It really wasn’t about the money, I was just happy to win.”
