“The Perks of Being a Wallflower” is written by Stephen Chbosky about a boy named Charlie who writes a letter to an anonymous friend about the trials and tribulations of his freshman year in high school.
The letter includes his experiences with girlfriends, friends, drugs, parties and, to the extreme, abuse.
The novel is filled with incredible detail and figurative language. In one part, Charlie is in his friend’s truck after going to prom and they enter a long tunnel. One his friends, Sam, climbs into the bed of the truck and stands up, her dress flowing in the wind like waves from the ocean. “Landslide” by Fleetwood Mac fills the tunnel. Charlie says, “And in that moment, I swear we were infinite.”
I really enjoyed reading this book and I would recommend it to anyone that has ever been through his freshman year in high school.
Another thing I really enjoyed from the book was the fact that he suggested a lot of real music that I proceeded to download onto my mp3 player.
