The book “1984” by George Orwell is a science fiction novel that is set in what the author thought the world would be like in 1984 when he wrote it in 1948.
It also served as a warning from the post World War II era. Oceania, a socialist sector of the world, is where the most of the novel takes place.
Winston Smith is a man living in a socialist society that watches his every move and hears his every thought and word spoken.
Soon after realizing he does not believe in the leader of the socialist government, Big Brother, he meets Julia.
He falls in love with her, even though it is against the law. They join what they think is a secret society called the Brotherhood, which quietly rebels against the government.
All too soon, they realize that they are greatly mistaken.
For something I did not expect, I thoroughly enjoyed reading “1984.”
While reading it, I developed a strong opinion about the characters and I really got attached to the book.
I would definitely recommend “1984” to anyone who truly loves science fiction.
