9 Girl Scouts make cookie hall of fame

Girl Scouts throughout southeast Louisiana developed their entrepreneurial skills while embracing community service during this year’s Girl Scout cookie program – including nine St. Charles Parish cadettes. The 2009 cookie theme of “Imagine If … We Could Change the World” proved to be an apt one with many local Girl Scouts ensuring military troops overseas would enjoy a taste of home, as the council, Girl Scouts Louisiana East, collaborated with the Army National Guard, the U.S. Marine Corps, and other organizations in shipping cookies to military personnel serving abroad.

This year’s cookie sale resulted in girls selling over 1,045,000 boxes of cookies, with 318 girls inducted into the council’s Cookie Hall of Fame for selling 400 boxes of cookies or more, nine of whom sold over 1,000 boxes of cookies. With such high achievers, next year’s Hall of Fame will be set at 500 boxes or more.

Here’s a rundown of the nine top local sellers:

•Lauren Shavor, Norco – 808

•Jessie Mae Sandolph, Boutte – 589

•Natalie Gilmore, Destrehan – 507

•Laura Sullivan, Destrehan – 481

•Kayla Pfister, Norco – 430

•Heather Morrow, Luling – 426

•Alexis Robinson, Norco – 405

•Marcella Aguilar, St. Rose – 402

Graduating high school senior and Girl Scout Ambassador Jamie Laurent of Metairie was again a top seller with 1,533 boxes sold, an increase of 198 boxes over her total last year.

According to proud mother Jody, Laurent met her personal goal of selling 10,000 boxes over her Girl Scout “career.”

The Girl Scout cookie program is an important element in Girl Scout’s mission of building girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place.

Girls have fun while practicing life skills like goal setting, money management, and teamwork. Customers get a great product while supporting girls in their own community.

A portion of the Cookie sale proceeds supports local Girl Scout troop activities with the remainder helping the Council.

Girl Scouts like to help others during the Girl Scout Cookie Sale. In addition to troops participating in Cookies 4 a Change, a troop program activity, over 7,900 girls participated in the Gift of Caring community service project in which girls encourage customers to buy cookies for donation to a non-profit or service organization selected by the troop.
