4-H’ers sew, show and shoot their way to victory

Members of the St. Charles Parish 4-H gathered to attend the annual 4-H Contest Day held at the 4-H Office in Luling. From cooking and sewing to shooting archery and showing their pets, members were able to participate in a variety of activities.

Members learned how to be creative chefs when asked to bring sugar, egg, and poultry dishes that they cooked at home. Members were also encouraged to bring a pillowcase that they both sewed and decorated.

One highlight of the day was the famous pet show! From dogs to turtles, members brought an assortment of animals and shared with others on how they care for their pets.

Youth also attended two workshops conducted by the 4-H Agents.

David Pichon presented youth with safety and shooting techniques for archery. Youth learned how to be patient yet determined when shooting a bow and arrow. Members competed to qualify for a regional archery competition at the end of April.

Kali Boudreaux taught 4-H’ers how to conduct a method demonstration by having them work as a team to do their own demonstration. Members taught one another how to pot a plant and gave each other constructive criticism when preparing and conducting a method demonstration.

The 4-H PAC (Performing Arts Club) presented their own demonstration by showing 4-H’ers how to line dance. St. Charles 4-H’ers danced until it was time to listen to the awards presentation.

The winners for the St. Charles 4-H Contest Day are pictured in the chart on this page.
